Moss Vale Liberal Branch called for a meeting to be held on Wednesday last week to vote for a motion to expel Mayor Arkwright.
The meeting was subsequently called off after the mayor voluntarily resigned from the branch before the meeting was held.
Moss Vale Liberal Branch president Michael Ball said they were against the idea of a local councillor as a member of the branch.
"She was not endorsed by any of the three Highland branches," Mr Ball said.
"The majority of the members don't think the Liberal party should be involved in local council matters and we don't think there should be a Liberal running any tickets at local level.
"We believe she was not properly elected as a Liberal branch member and she has brought disrepute to the liberal party.
"We called for the meeting to vote on a motion to expel her, but given that she resigned in advance of the meeting, we are not holding the meeting."
Mr Ball said there were several other reasons that had pushed for the call to expel Cr Arkwright's during her role as mayor.
"More recently her action to dismiss the general manager and using a block of five-to-four to stifle debate among other councillors," Mr Ball said.
"She has formed partnerships with four other councillors, one of who is a Greens member Cr Jim Clark and independent Cr Larry Whipper.
"It is against Liberal Policy to form consultations with the Greens and her alliance also includes developer Cr John Uliana and he has matters in dispute with council on various issues."
Mr Ball said the branch would call for another meeting in response to the mayors resignation and to discuss what action they might take, pending the required 20 days notice period.
The mayor was contacted, but failed to comment.
